PLAYING THE GAME

Classic:

This option appeals to the more experienced players, or those who like more risk in the game. It offers a different level of excitement due to the fact that you are out until a team member catches an arrow or knocks out one of the opposing team’s 5-spot targets. The object of this style of play is to have the most players and target spots remaining at the end of the timed game (typically 5-10 minutes depending on scheduling and number of players).

  • A player shall be deemed “out” for being tagged with an arrow. In any of the following manners:
    -Players body (including the head)
    -Any/All clothing (uniform)
-Any equipment (bows, arrows, masks, etc.)
-Anything touching that player counts as a hit
  • A player is out when his/her arrow is caught by an opposing team member and that team gets to recall a tagged out player
  • There are two ways in which to recall a tagged out player:
-Catching an opponent’s arrow (as indicated above)
-Knocking out an opponent’s 5-spot target

League:

This style of game play makes a great spectator sport because it is fast paced with many lead changes, and is more beneficial to newer players or those who are “paying per game.” When a player is hit they remain in the game and continue to play. As one can imagine, it is quite frustrating to be tagged out within 30 seconds for a new player just learning to shoot and play Archery Tag®. The object of this style is to score as many points as possible in the allotted amount of time (typically 5-10 minutes depending on scheduling and number of players).

  • Teams are awarded one point for each opponent tagged with an arrow. In any of the following manners:
    -Players body (including the head)
    -Any/All clothing (uniform)
-Any equipment (bows, arrows, masks, etc.)
-Anything touching that player counts as a hit
  • Teams are awarded 2 points for each spot that is knocked out of the opposing teams’ target
  • Teams are awarded 2 points if an opponent’s arrow is caught in mid-flight

THE REFEREE

The Referee is the official time-keeper of the game. They also may be certified archery instructors as well! Their responsibility is not only to start and end the game, but also to make sure everyone is safe while providing a positive and fun environment! They will monitor play, watch for tags, and uphold the rules set forth. They also may help retrieve arrows and help assist newer players if the event is not a tournament or competitive league play. Unsportsmanlike conduct will not be tolerated and will be sanctioned accordingly.
